Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most from travelers.
Enter your departure station, destination station, and travel date into the search bar on the homepage, then select “Find Trains” to see the operating carrier’s published departures for that day — train name and number, departure and arrival times, and journey length. Searching is free and no account is needed. To get a fare, call the reservations number on any result.
Yes. Use the "Round Trip" or "One Way" tabs in the search widget to choose the trip type that fits your plans before searching.
We do not publish estimated fares on the site. Rail prices move with demand and seat availability, so instead of showing a number that may not survive to checkout, our reservations team checks the live fare with the operating carrier while you are on the phone. You are then quoted your full total — the carrier’s fare plus any assisted-booking service fee of $10 to $100, depending on the complexity of the itinerary, shown as a separate line — before you authorize any payment.
Contact us with your booking reference and we will process it with the operating carrier. What you get back is governed by the fare rules of the ticket you bought and by how far ahead of departure you cancel — those rules are the carrier’s, and they are disclosed to you before you pay. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for the full detail.
Yes. Visit our Deals & Discounts page to see everyday discount categories, including senior, military, student, and group rates.
Use the Track a Train page and enter your train number or route name to see upcoming stops and estimated times.
Baggage allowances are set by the operating carrier and vary by route and service. We do not set them. Check the carrier’s published baggage policy for your train, or ask our team when you call to book.
No. BestTripsNow.com is an independent travel search and booking-assistance service. We are not Amtrak, we do not operate any train or station, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any rail carrier. We are also not a government agency, and this is not an official government or carrier ticketing website. You can always book directly with the operating carrier on its own website or at a station ticket office. See About Us for our full disclosure.
Searching, comparing, and browsing this site is free. Where our team completes a reservation for you by phone, an assisted-booking service fee of $10 to $100, depending on the complexity of the itinerary, may apply — and if it does, we state the exact amount as a separate line item and get your agreement before any payment is taken. We do not mark up the carrier’s fare and we never add a fee after the fact. We may also earn a commission from a carrier or booking partner on a completed booking; that is paid out of the transaction and does not increase what you pay. See Pricing Transparency.
